What is coaching?

A coach takes a person from where they are now to where they want to be.

Coaching uses a solution-focussed approach to unlock potential and enable you be the best you can be.

It provides you with a safe space to explore whatever challenge you are facing.

As your coach, I’ll ask you the right questions to help you examine your thoughts and expand your thinking.

With fresh insight, perspective and clarity, you will be able to generate new ideas, problem-solve more effectively, make decisions and take action.

I will guide you through the process, so you can identify your own solution – one that is right for you.

How is coaching different to mentoring?

Mentoring is usually provided by someone more senior in the same organisation or industry who, having walked the same path, can give advice based on their wisdom, knowledge and experience.  The relationship is usually medium to long-term.

Coaching is focussed on the present and is about exploring and experimenting with new ways of seeing, thinking, being and doing, in order to achieve positive change.  The intervention is short (months not years) and targeted.  The coach does not need to understand the role the coachee performs and it is not the coach’s role to advise (although coaching can be combined with mentoring, when appropriate).

Who is coaching suitable for?

You’ll gain most from coaching if you:

  • Are motivated to learn and grow
  • Have a gap between where you are now and where you want to be
  • Are happy to have your current thinking challenged
  • Are open to change and willing to try out new things and reflect
  • Are ready to take responsibility and be held accountable for your development
